Accommodation and Transport Guide for Istanbul Patients

A practical guide for planning an examination in Istanbul: which airport, which district, and how to handle the traffic.

Which airport to fly into?

Istanbul has two major airports: Istanbul Airport (IST, European side) and Sabiha Gökçen (SAW, Asian side). Landing on the same side as your appointment can save hours.

Choosing where to stay

Pick a district connected to your appointment by metro or a single ride; two nearby-looking points can be 1.5 hours apart at rush hour. Ask about metro distance, elevators and late check-in.

Planning around traffic

Schedule appointments between 10:00 and 16:00 when possible; bridges and arteries are congested at peak. Always add 30 minutes to the navigation estimate.

Metro and İstanbulkart

The İstanbulkart works on all public transport and is sold at airport metro stations. Metro lines are the most predictable option.

On examination day

Bring MRI/CT images, previous reports, medication list and ID. Sending images digitally in advance makes the consultation efficient.
